The binaural birthday song Inside You was commissioned by Global Forest Kunstverein to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Deutsches Phonomuseum in St. Georgen, where it was featured from December 4 to 31, 2022.
During a residency in the Black Forest in December 2021, I became fascinated by the variety of hidden sounds within phonographs and gramophones, especially the mechanical noises that arise as incidental by-products of music playback. The piece Inside You integrates recordings of these sounds, both in their original form and transformed through playback on various tin can telephones. Additionally, sustained tones were created by bowing a turntable platter and using eBows on a zither.
